Offering practically the same architectural properties and aesthetic appeal of natural stone or slate but formed from slate. Hardrow Slates will naturally mellow with age. The slates have subtle and also natural colours. The colours skilfully balanced.
Hardrow Slates, made not to be uniform in appearance. They are intentionally manufactured to be slightly irregular in size, thickness and shape to enhance the laid character of the roof. As with natural stone, their individual colouring varies too from slate to slate. They recreate that much sought-after traditional appearance so hard to achieve within tight budgets.
The inspiration for Hardrow Slate came in the early 1920s. Many of the most outstanding examples of Georgian architecture are roofed in large stone slates. Forticrete saw this as an opportunity to manufacture a cost-effective alternative product that matched all the qualities of natural slate. And so, at Hawes in West Yorkshire, the first Hardrow Slates were manufactured and it has been an increasingly popular choice for homeowners, roofing contractors and specifiers ever since
