The Reclaimed Company ®
Second Hand Safe
In an increasingly digital world, the prospect of a safe, which is essentially a large, really heavy, metal box, seems counterintuitive.
However, everyone needs a safe place, and everything deserves a second chance. So, at The Reclaimed Company ®, we have decided to continue salvaging a range of reclaimed safes with a view to preserving their future use.
A safe is not just for valuables, it can represent a place of keeping, somewhere where you always know that something will be.
Secure, dependable, consistent, unless of course you forget the code or the key snaps in the lock! 🤷🏻

🔐 Reclaimed Safes – Security With a Story
At The Reclaimed Company®, we don’t just rescue timber, tiles, and trinkets — we also unlock the secrets of the past… literally.
Introducing our collection of reclaimed safes: vintage vaults, forgotten strongboxes, and antique security chests, each with more character than your average bank manager. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill office safes — they’ve guarded gold, stashed silver, and maybe even kept the odd bottle of brandy under lock and key during Prohibition (allegedly).
Why buy a reclaimed safe?
Built like a tank: These beauties were made back when “secure” meant “survives a cannonball.”
Style points: Think cast iron, brass fittings, and hand-painted insignias. They’re basically industrial art pieces you can store snacks in.
History in your hallway: Each safe tells a tale — some have embossed crests, old bank stamps, or mysterious initials carved into the interior (who was “J.W.D.” and what did he keep in there?).
Conversation starter: Nothing says “I’m a person of intrigue” like having a 150kg Victorian safe in your living room.
What can you do with reclaimed safes?
Store your valuables (or biscuits, we’re not judging)
Convert it into a mini bar — seriously cool
Use it as a statement coffee table (if your floorboards can take the weight)
Hide snacks from your children (or spouse)
Just stand back and admire it like the glorious, heavy metal relic it is

Sizes, Styles & Surprises
We stock a rotating selection of safes in all sizes — from petite cash boxes to “needs a forklift” behemoths. Some still have functioning locks and original keys, others come with a mystery and a crowbar. Whether you want a Chubb, a Milners, or something unbranded but undeniably majestic, we’ve probably got something that’ll spark your curiosity.
A Few We’ve Had Recently:
A late 1800s Samuel Withers safe with working key and painted floral paneling
A Milners Patent Fire-Resisting Safe with lion emblem and inner locking drawer
An unbranded steel monster we affectionately named “The Accountant’s Revenge”
⚠️ Please note: All safes are VERY heavy. Like, drop-it-through-the-floor heavy. Make sure you’ve got solid ground beneath you and a few mates on speed dial (or ask us about delivery options, which are kerbside of course, and no stairs!).

Commonly Salvaged Models
Our stock rotates often, but here are a few classics that frequently roll through our yard:
🛠 Milners’ Patent Fire-Resisting Safe
The Rolls Royce of old safes. Heavy, ornate, and often embossed with a lion crest or brass maker’s plate. Built to survive fires, floods, and nosy in-laws.
🛠 Samuel Withers & Co. Safes
Birmingham-made legends. Usually found with deep green or black enamel finishes, classic gold pinstriping, and beautifully crafted locking mechanisms.
🛠 Chatwood’s Patent Safes
Known for their triple-bolt locking systems and hefty doors, Chatwoods were the banker’s choice in the 19th century. Many still come with their original keys — or at least a good mystery.
🛠 Tann’s Security Cabinets
Sleek by 1920s standards, with minimal styling but bulletproof construction. Sometimes retrofitted as home bars or filing cabinets (for the stylish hoarder).
🛠 Chubb & Sons Safes
Reliable, iconic, and almost always absurdly heavy. Many still feature working combination locks or key mechanisms that defy modern tampering.
