Code 3 roofing lead should be used for supported, non-exposed details and soakers, with heavier codes for gutters, valleys and trays. For guidance on bay sizing, underlays and best-practice detailing to BS 6915, refer to The Lead Lads® technical resources and GNR’s specialist leadwork team.

Code 3 roofing lead is a lightweight rolled lead sheet manufactured to BS EN 12588 and widely used for
supported, non-exposed roof details. In traditional roofing, Code 3 lead is preferred for soakers, step
flashings, abutment details and conservation work where minimal build-up and excellent malleability are
required. With a nominal thickness of 1.32 mm, Code 3 provides reliable weatherproofing when installed
beneath tiles or slates and is commonly paired with Code 4 or Code 5 cover flashings in accordance with
BS 6915 installation guidance.

This category includes the most popular Code 3 lead roll widths and lengths supplied by The Reclaimed
Company®. All products conform to BS EN 12588 tolerances and are suitable for heritage roofing, domestic
pitched roofs, and traditional detailing. Code 3 should not be used for exposed flashings, valleys, gutters
or flat roof applications; heavier codes such as Code 5 or Code 6 should be selected for those environments.
Contractors and homeowners can use this range to source reliable, high-quality rolled lead for both repair
work and new installations.

What Is Code 3 Roofing Lead Used For?

Code 3 roofing lead is the thinnest grade used in traditional roofing and is intended for supported, non-exposed detailing on pitched roofs. With a thickness of just 1.32 mm, it offers excellent malleability and keeps tile and slate courses sitting correctly without lifting or distortion.

Typical applications include:

  • Tile and slate soakers at roof abutments
  • Step flashings positioned beneath Code 4 or Code 5 cover flashings
  • Forming lead welding sticks for repairs and patch welding
  • Small supported junctions in heritage and conservation roofing

Because it is lightweight, Code 3 should not be used for exposed flashings or structural details. For valleys, parapets, gutters or any semi-flat area, upgrade to Code 5 or Code 6 following BS 6915 guidance.
