Code 5 Lead Flashing

Code 5 roofing lead is widely regarded as the most versatile grade of rolled lead sheet. At around 2.24 mm thick and produced to BS EN 12588, it offers the extra strength needed for higher exposure areas, longer bays and gutter linings, while still being easy to boss, weld and form to complex roof details.

The Reclaimed Company® supplies Code 5 rolls with pricing set per kg and checked regularly against the LME. Standard 3 m and 6 m rolls are shown within this category, and custom cut lengths can be arranged for larger orders. From here you can source bulk Code 5 rolls, then use The Lead Lads® and GNR Roofing for lead flashing planning, cut-to-size options, fixings and specialist installation services.

Code 5 lead is suitable for stepped and cover flashings, gutters, valleys, aprons, back gutters and small flat roof details. For very wide bays or extreme exposure, step up to Code 6 in line with BS 6915 and Lead Lads® technical guidance.

Code 5 roofing lead is one of the most versatile grades of rolled lead sheet, suitable for both
pitched and flat roofing applications. With a nominal thickness of approximately 2.24 mm and a weight of around
25.40 kg/m², Code 5 provides excellent durability in higher exposure areas while remaining workable enough to be
bossed, welded and formed to complex details. Manufactured to BS EN 12588, it delivers consistent
thickness and controlled tolerances for reliable long-term performance.

The Reclaimed Company® supplies Code 5 lead for chimney flashings, cover flashings, gutter
linings, valleys, aprons, back gutters and cladding details. It is frequently selected where roofs are exposed to
wind and driving rain, or where longer bays and wider gutters are required. Standard rolls are typically available
in 3 m and 6 m lengths, and larger projects can benefit from custom-cut sizes supplied to specification.

Code 5 lead is fully recyclable and recognised for its strong environmental credentials as a roofing material.
Customers can source Code 5 rolls through The Reclaimed Company®, while related products such as Code 3 and Code 4
lead, leadwork fixings, patination oil and accessories are available from both The Reclaimed Company® and our
partner platform The Lead Lads® Lead Shop. Installation should always follow BS 6915 and
recognised leadworking best practice, ideally carried out by a specialist leadworker.

Where Code 5 Lead Excels

Code 5 roofing lead is often chosen as the “go-to” grade where roofs are more exposed or where longer runs and wider gutters are required. Its additional thickness over Code 4 provides greater resistance to movement and weathering, while still allowing the sheet to be dressed cleanly into chases, valleys and gutter linings.

Typical Code 5 applications include:

  • Stepped and cover flashings to chimneys and abutments
  • Aprons and back gutters around chimney stacks
  • Valleys on pitched roofs, including moderate to high exposure
  • Gutter linings, parapet gutters and narrow box gutters
  • Small flat roof bays and detail work on dormers
  • Cladding panels where a more robust gauge of lead is desirable

For very wide gutters, large flat bays or extreme coastal exposure, designers will often move from Code 5 to Code 6 or Code 7. Detailing should always follow BS 6915 and LSTA guidance to control bay sizing, fixings and thermal movement.
