For slate roofs, 3.35 mm nails provide the head strength and pull-out resistance expected in current UK fixing practice for slating (BS 5534). Choose length by slate thickness and headlap; 30 mm suits thinner slates and vertical cladding where shorter penetration is specified.

For fixing lead sheet and clips to timber, use copper annular ring shank nails (often 25 mm × 3.35 mm) to resist movement from thermal cycling. Stainless is an alternative; avoid plain steel. Always follow lead manufacturer guidance.
