Reclaimed 20 x 10 Spanish Slate (500 x 250)

Great quality natural

Has a good thickness and would look great on a roof as an alternative to domestic Welsh Slate.

Natural Spanish slate has been used on commercial and industrial roofs for generations and has stood the test of time. With the unpredictable British weather Spanish roof slates have performed for hundreds of years dating back to the 1300s.Good quality slate known to last at least 70-80 years on a roof. Spanish slate can last the life of the building it serves if laid correctly.

Alongside Welsh slate, Spanish slate is the most well-known slate variety on the market, with Spain the largest producer of the natural, metamorphic material in the world. Formed underground under intense heat and pressure. Split into smooth flat pieces to form roof tiles and cladding.

Though this manufacturing process is consistent of all natural slate, the quality of the slate depends on a variety of factors. These include which quarry it comes from, thickness, strength and chemical make up.

Definition: Number of slates needed to cover one square metre.

Formula: 1 000 000 mm² ÷ (effective width × effective height)

Where:

Effective width = tile width – side lap
Effective height = tile height – head lap

Example: 610 mm × 355 mm tile, 20 mm side lap, 75 mm head lap:

Effective width: 610 − 20 = 590 mm
Effective height: 355 − 75 = 280 mm
Area per slate: 590 × 280 = 165 200 mm²
