Quarry Tiles

These second hand quarry tiles were made by a company local to us here in York.

Dating from the early part of the 19th century they have been hidden under a floor for years.

We only have a limited quantity available.

The tiles measure 150mm square and are around 40mm thick.

As they have been installed under a floor they would benefit from a good clean before being relaid.

Ideal for repairing an existing floor or undertaking a small area of flooring or use as an inlaid table top?

Calculating Slates per m²

Definition: Number of slates needed to cover one square metre.

Formula: 1 000 000 mm² ÷ (effective width × effective height)

Where:

Effective width = tile width – side lap
Effective height = tile height – head lap

Example: 610 mm × 355 mm tile, 20 mm side lap, 75 mm head lap:

Effective width: 610 − 20 = 590 mm
Effective height: 355 − 75 = 280 mm
Area per slate: 590 × 280 = 165 200 mm²
Slates per m²: 1 000 000 ÷ 165 200 ≈ 6.05
