Goxhill Barrow Bold Roll tiles in terracotta red that can be easily identified by there distinct pronounced right hand roll.
These tiles were excess tiles for a job and so have never been put on a roof.
The tiles are in nearly new condition because they have weathered slightly from been stored outside.

A traditional clay pan tile with a bolder then usual roll.

Handmade in the Riding of East Yorkshire.

Design

Designed and developed with Alban plain tile. Those wanting traditional handmade looks at a more affordable price will want this tile. Every tile has a generous amount of sand. This creates a rich sanded look characteristic of a true handmade tile. There are four colours to choose from.

There are two brown shades; Burnt Oak and Bay Brown as well as two red colours – the Light and Dark Rusper. Use the tiles individually on the roof or mixed to create an attractive blend of colours called ‘Barrow Brindle Mix’. The red colours are also ideal for vertical tile hanging.

Barrow creates its own look on the roof and offers the specifier, homeowner or builder a range of benefits.

Fine quality alluvial clay is used to make the Goxhill tile. Alluvial clay is found from the plains of the river Humber. Sandtoft has been working with this premium quality clay for over a hundred years, producing highly durable roof tiles rich in colour, character and texture.

The character of a handmade clay plain tile comes from the way it is handled and cared for by its maker. Our master craftsmen share decades of experience and knowledge – although each has his own unique and inimitable style, which in turn ensures that every Goxhill roof is unique.

Every Goxhill tile has subtle variations in form that derive from the way it is handled, particularly when it is being ‘sanded’ by a craftsman. Coloured sand is worked into the tile by hand before it is carefully moulded onto a drying support; and once dry, it is ready to be fired.

Creation process

To ensure consistency, our cutting- edge tunnel kiln fires all the tiles at a constant and precise temperature, whilst maximising heat recovery
and energy efficiency. This unique combination of the latest ceramic technology and age-old craftsmanship ensures each Goxhill tile offers both impressive durability and aesthetic beauty.

Definition: Number of slates needed to cover one square metre.

Formula: 1 000 000 mm² ÷ (effective width × effective height)

Where:

Effective width = tile width – side lap
Effective height = tile height – head lap

Example: 610 mm × 355 mm tile, 20 mm side lap, 75 mm head lap:

Effective width: 610 − 20 = 590 mm
Effective height: 355 − 75 = 280 mm
Area per slate: 590 × 280 = 165 200 mm²
Slates per m²: 1 000 000 ÷ 165 200 ≈ 6.05
